Advantages of getting Dental Crowns in Cancun, Mexico

When we do our dental crowns we usually ask our patients for about a week to finish the work and make sure it fits them perfectly. They sometimes wonder how are dental crowns made, so today we will explain the process. The first thing we need to take into account to choose the material that will be used. Although for a long time various metallic materials have been used, now we have seen an increase of porcelain and zirconia crowns. These two materials are the favorite of patients, because they give them a totally natural appearance. Porcelain fused to metal crowns are regarded as not having enough “transparency” in the edges sometimes, to they might not look as natural, but they are much more affordable. In any case, our smile design specialist will advise you and help you choose the best option for your smile.

From the moment we know the material, we will begin to carry out the manufacturing process with the taking of a dental impression from the prepared teeth (when the teeth are filed down).  The manufacturing process involves a model, shaping the crown and polishing. It is usually carried out in a dental laboratory, to later send it to the dental clinic. This process can take a few days or the whole week, depending on the workload of the laboratory, number of crowns to do for a single patient, etc.

The crowns have been designed to last several years. Depending on the care we have, these can last a “lifetime” or 20 or so years, but it also depends on the material used and the care given to the dental crown. Dental crowns should be treated as if they were natural teeth: They should be brushed, flossed, and checked in the periodic oral examination every 6 months or every year at the very least, since the remaining tooth under them could suffer dental decay.
